Overview    This hands-on training course, aimed at experienced VMware Infrastructure 3 administrators, covers installation, configuration, and management of a VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) using VMware Virtual Desktop Manager (VDM).  

The course focuses on the delivery of virtual Windows desktops using the VDM connection server.
 
 
Objectives    •  Create an Active Directory infrastructure for virtual desktops
•  Apply Group Policy Objects and roaming profiles in a VMware virtual desktop infrastructure
•  Create and manage Windows XP and Vista virtual desktops using VMware VDM 2.0.
•  Administer a variety of client devices: PCs and thin clients
 
Who Should Attend?    Systems administrators and systems integrators experienced with VMware Infrastructure 3 who are responsible for their organization’s deployment of VMware virtual desktop technology.
 
Prerequisites    Required
•  Comfort with fundamental Windows administration tasks such as adding users and computers to Active Directory domains

Recommended
•  Completion of VMware Infrastructure 3: Install and Configure or equivalent experience with VMware Infrastructure 3
•  Basic experience in Microsoft Windows administration

Basic Skills Self-Assessment: VDM
You must already possess the following pre-requisite skills to gain the greatest possible value from attending this course:
•  Build a Windows virtual machine using the VMware Infrastructure Client.
•  Create a template in VMware vCenter and deploy a virtual machine from it.
•  Migrate a virtual machine using VMware vMotion.
•  Open a virtual machine console on vCenter and access the guest operating system.
•  Modify a virtual machine’s hardware (add disk, add NIC).
•  Modify a template customization file.
•  Configure Active Directory (AD) roaming profiles.
•  Configure AD GPOs.
•  Configure AD DNS forward and reverse lookup.
•  Configure AD DHCP.
